Flax——Vivid Natural Faith

图片

Flax, a plant with a long history.

Flax, which originated in Europe, defines the European landscape more than any other plant, with endless ethereal blue flowers destined

to bloom for just one day. However, their stems hide fibers that last a lifetime: durable, pliable, and natural.

Northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands are the best areas for flax cultivation; especially in Normandy, the proximity to the sea and

the climatic conditions create special conditions for flax growth: a perfect alternation of sun, rain, dew and wind.

In the Normandy region, experienced growers sow flax between mid-March and mid-April. The density of a flax field determines the quality

of its fiber: too dense and the stems cannot grow properly; too sparse and the field will be negatively affected by wind and rain.

Flax growers, secretive and great.

The most delicate phase is the harvest, which takes place between July and August.

Plants must be pulled out of the ground to maximize stem length. The trick of professional flax growers is to follow nature's course: after pulling,

the flax is left in the field and left to the elements, naturally activating the maceration process.

Knowing the right time to remove flax from a field is no easy task, as the stems require adequate rain to become durable and pliable.

This process is called retting and can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months, depending on weather conditions.

Once the flax is picked up, it is pressed into bales and stored until the fibers are extracted.

Flax fiber vitality, quality and sustainability.

The tradition and experience of flax growers allows them to make the most of what nature and innovation have to offer, thus reducing their carbon footprint and ensuring that this traditional way of making is promoted and protected.

The best quality flax is produced here, and when grown in its origin, no additional water is required for flax production: the optimal alternation of sunny and rainy days in Normandy ensures that the flax has all the conditions to grow tall and strong.

Additionally, flax plants are protected from pests and insects, thus minimizing or eliminating the use of pesticides.

Finally, flax production improves soil quality. By alternating flax with different crops, the productivity of the land is naturally increased by 20%, and the flax fragments can be used as fertilizer for upcoming crops.

Linen, a homage to nature.

From a bundle of high-quality flax fibers, to a superior quality linen yarn, to a superior piece of linen fabric, it is the joint efforts and collaboration of generations of flax growers, craftsmen and visionaries. They believe in the unique properties of this natural fiber and use it to create clothing and fabrics that enhance the union of tradition, culture and craftsmanship.
